St. Louis (by way of the Factory in Chesterfield) once again hosted the beautiful queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race. Just after the Thanksgiving holiday, some of the brightest stars in the drag universe gave us their all.
Nina West handled the emcee duties, seemingly effortlessly keeping the show going and playing with the audience. She was funny and quick with a response and a joke. The first queen out was Missouri’s own Crystal Methyd. She was dressed as the Rat King for a hilarious dance number.
Suzie Toot followed with “That’s Life” by Lady Gaga. Suzie is a big-eyed (taller than she looks) queen who could have stepped out of a 1930s cabaret. She is endlessly talented. Lexi Love danced and lip synched to “Nonsense” by Sabrina Carpenter and “Angels in the Snow” by Cher. She is so lithe and beautiful.
Jewels Sparkles did a wonderful number to Ariana Grande’s “Popular,” and her physical comedy was nearly as good as the song. She was followed by a performance that was a burlesque treat to the eyes. Bosco, one of the most beautiful women to grace the planet, danced with a piece of white fabric, wrapping it around her body as a dress, a shawl, a skirt, a veil. It was beautiful. We also got to see Lydia B. Collins synch “All I Want for Christmas.”
With more cities on the tour, it’s hard to imagine how they keep their spirits up and smiles on their faces. These days that amount of joy is a holiday miracle. | Melissa Cynova
