Awash in an intensely moody light show and backlit glory, The Dandy Warhols made an epic and beautiful return to St. Louis at Delmar Hall on Saturday night. It had been a decade since I had seen them last, and if I recall properly, I believe it was at the Ready Room. We were well overdue for a show this cool in Lou.

It’s like the band gives you a unique play of power, each band member feeling like a front person in their own right. The stage does not keep drummer, Brent DeBoer, in the back – nope, he’s damn near at the front of the stage.

is still aloof and effortless with his charismatic stage presence, equally intent, and engaging. Guitarist Peter Holmström’s psychedelic riffs soared while being mostly and dramatically backlit, he’s quite the enigma.  Ever the favorite, keyboardist Zia McCabe added her layers of musical depth to the band’s sound while looking cool AF. It was her who spoke at the end of the night telling the crowd “this was a fun one” as she was the one to leave the stage as they bid the hall farewell.

Their latest release Rockmaker is one for the books and I was thrilled they played tracks like “Danzig With Myself” from it. I mentioned in the preview that I was really hoping they would play the album closing track “I will never stop loving you“, much to my heart’s content, they did! That song, like much of their music, feels like a punch in the heart as much as it feels like a psychedelic kiss good night.
