The National Museum of Transportation (2967 Barrett Station Rd.) is not as widely known as some of St. Louis’ more famous museums, but the educational offerings on the history of rail and other forms of travel make it well worth the ride to Kirkwood.
A look back at America’s history always pairs well with music with its roots in America’s folk music traditions, which makes the museum the perfect home for the inaugural Acoustic Music Fest. Taking place at the museum on Sunday, September 15th, as part of a yearlong celebration for the museum’s 75th birthday, the festival features a bevy of local acts with their feet firmly planted in Americana music. Headlined by the punk blues of the Rum Drum Ramblers, the event also includes “doom-laden blues rock” band the Maness Brothers, the politically progressive country of Jack Grelle, the classic country of the Red Headed Strangers, and the New Orleans blues stylings of the Funky Butt Brass Band, among others; see below for a complete list of artists and performance times. The event will also feature food trucks as well as arts and crafts vendors, and Whiskey Ring and 4 Hands Brewery have teamed up to supply the beverages.
