About this week’s artist:

Tyler Dale is an accomplished country artist, songwriter, and producer hailing from St. Louis, MO. Alongside his sister, Kristen Anne, he has fronted various cover bands, traversing the Midwest and sharing stages with luminaries such as Josh Turner, Uncle Kracker, and Lady A. The year 2020 marked a pivotal turn in his career when he ventured into releasing his own original music under the direction of Logan Miller, birthing the project, “Tyler Dale + Co.” On December 31st, 2023, he released his debut album, Salutations. His band consists of some of the finest musicians from St. Louis & beyond. If you’re lucky, you can catch special guests such as his father ‘Mountain Man’ Dave Elder and powerhouse vocalist Joanna Serenko to name a few. Tyler & Joanna are currently on a coastal tour of the United States. They are a dynamic musical duo with a setlist that features a diverse blend of original songs and reimagined covers across genres like country, pop, R&B, and rock, all delivered with their unique soulful twist.

What brought you to this point in your life as a working St. Louis artist?

I grew up singing in church, school choirs, and festivals. My sister, Kristen Anne, and I started off singing at wineries, breweries, fairs, and festivals as Thicker Than Water. Years later, we changed our name to Leland’s Road, and released our first original album. Over the years, we have sang in different cover bands throughout the Midwest region. Kristen has been on this musical journey with me & has been involved in every step of the way. I went to SIU-E (from the recommendation of my high school band director, Denny McFarland) and got my bachelor’s degree in music studying under some of the best musicians/professors in the Midwest region & beyond. Miles Vandiver is the drum professor & Zebadiah Briskovich is the bass professor at SIU-E and are both featured on the live and studio version of this song. Rick Haydon, Jason Swagler, & Garrett Schmidt are several of the instructors that I had the honor of studying with at SIU-E. In college, my sister introduced me to Logan Miller. Logan is an incredible producer, guitarist, bassist, singer, songwriter, worship leader, and friend who co-produced many songs on my album, played guitar throughout the entire album, and had his fingertips in every aspect along the way. Logan is also featured in the studio/live version of “Twin Flame.” In between finishing my album, I co-produced and played guitar on Joanna Serenko’s album, Best Of Me. Joanna is featured on the studio and live version of this song. It’s also the intro/outro to our VLOG series that we’ve started together on the road.

What inspires your music? What does this song in particular mean to you?

This song is called, “Twin Flame.” It’s nostalgic for me for many reasons. Not only is it a duet with my girlfriend, Joanna Serenko, but we wrote this on the roof of the house in Overland, MO that we just sold. I went out on the roof to get a frisbee and ended up watching the sunset and writing the first 2 verses before having Joanna join me on the roof to finish the song. We sold the house in December, bought a 28ft Airstream, and are currently on a coastal tour of the U.S.A.

Who in St. Louis are you inspired by right now?

Logan Miller is a St. Louis artist that I’m extremely inspired by. Not only is Logan an incredible original artist, but he can be seen and heard in several different original projects around town as a guitarist & producer. Logan also owns a record label and publishing company, Kingly Common, that just won their first Grammy with Lloyd Nicks’ song, “That’s My King.”

What bands are you touring with lately?

Joanna and I are currently on a coastal tour with our dog, Cedar, in our 28 ft Airstream Safari. We started in New Orleans and are currently traveling around the coast of Florida. We’ve had an incredible journey so far and are excited to meet new people & share our music with new venues around the United States. Go to Joanna-Serenko.com to check out more about this adventure.

Where do you hope to be in 5 years?

Over the next 5 years, Joanna and I will have toured each part of the United States (from sea to shining sea, from the Smoky to the Rocky Mountains, and everywhere in between) and throughout Canada. We will have established channels as songwriters, content creators, and entrepreneurs. We will each release several more albums and continue to share stories from the road. I also will have finished my master’s degree at SIU-E. Joanna and I will also have a farm with lots of animals (that’s one of our goals after doing as much traveling as we can).
