For most of the last three decades, Boston’s Dispatch has offered up the kind of music perfectly tuned to a sweltering summer night in St. Louis: rootsy acoustic folk inflected with sunny reggae and ska vibes. Touring behind their latest album (Yellow Jacket, released earlier this month on Bomber Records/AWAL Recordings; stream it here!), singer/guitarist Chadwick Stokes and multi-instrumentalist Brad Corrigan played three of the new tracks, with “the moon and the seven seas” seeing its live debut. The band’s most beloved song, the anti-war-themed “The General,” came toward the end of the main set, stretching out to seven minutes with an extended crowd singalong. The encore wrapped up with a run through Bob Dylan’s immortal “Like a Rolling Stone.”

Joining Dispatch on the tour are American-born, Australian-raised roots rocker John Butler and the hip-hop-inflected grooves of G. Love & Special Sauce, and surf-rocking singer-songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter. | Jason Green
