Concert review: Collective Soul, Live, & Our Lady Peace | 07.17.25, Hollywood Casino Amphitheater (with photo gallery)

That oh-so-fun Saint Louis summer heat and sudden rainstorm mid‑show only cranked up the fun at Hollywood Casino Amphitheater when Our Lady Peace, Live, and Collective Soul brought a sweaty, unforgettable, totally ‘90s-fueled rockfest to our town. With Our Lady Peace as the opener, it immediately felt like we were stepping into a time machine. Fronted by Raine Maida (vocals), Duncan Coutts (bass), Steve Mazur (guitar), and Jason Pierce (drums), they jumped into back-to-back hits like “Superman’s Dead” and “Starseed.” Even though the sun was still out, lights were blasting bright and fog machines were in overdrive. Even with zero moody darkness, it was pretty much just nineties nostalgia blazing right along with sweltering summertime.

And then it poured rain. Surprisingly, no one seemed like they cared even if they were drenched. The place stayed packed (got a little sweatier) and then Live took over as the second act, keeping that ‘90s nostalgia train rolling full-speed ahead. Ed Kowalczyk led the charge with his unmistakable vocals, joined by touring players Zak Loy (guitar), Chris Heerlein (bass), Johnny Radelat (drums), and Nick Jay (keys); the band sounded tight and they were fiery! Ed’s voice sounds just like it did years ago, he’s not lost any of that richness that people really homed in on when it came to their music. Ready for this? Their set included “Pain Lies on the Riverside,” and closing it off with “Lightning Crashes”! So fitting!

Because this was a co-headlining tour with alternating closers, Collective Soul wrapped it all up on this night. Fronted by brothers Ed Roland (vocals, guitar) and Dean Roland (guitar), the band includes Will Turpin (bass), Johnny Rabb (drums), and Jesse Triplett (guitar). Decked out in finery and bringing true rock star vibes, they closed the show with full force and tremendous fun. It was bright, it was loud, it was a trip down memory lane, and it was an absolute blast. Collective Soul sound amazing, sharp, and in full-force with their performance and were really impressive to see. I can remember the last time I saw them, but it’s been years, let’s just say that and leave it at that!  Their setlist included their hits (of course!) like “Shine,” “Precious Declaration,” “She Said,” “December,” and “The World I Know.” Sure, the heat kept sweltering all night, but the music was flowing, the fog and lights kept going, and even after the storm hit, we got a rainbow during the sunset. | Laura Jerele
