Concert review: Slow Crush w/ Faetooth | 09.14.25, Off Broadway (with photo gallery)

It was foggy, it was moody, it was a shoegaze paradise. Slow Crush gave us everything we needed last Sunday night at Off Broadway… a perfect set that was as dreamy as it was dark.

It’s wonderful to see a band like Slow Crush in a venue as intimate as Off Broadway; it just lends to the whole experience. The band was drenched in fog and shrouded in darkness the whole time, and most of that enveloped the audience as well. SO. MUCH. FOG. There were very few moments of bright light, and when they hit, the flashes of darkness were broken with really quick white strobe light perfectly timed to musical moments. But other than that, it was dark, moody, heavy and broody. Very romantic grunge, if you ask me. Does that make it more difficult to shoot a show? Sure, but it makes it all the more enjoyable when you are there and getting lost in music.

Most of their songs hang with one-word titles, like “Aurora,” “Covet,” and “Cherry” that made the setlist for the night. I only wish the show was a bit longer, but I’m pretty sure they nailed down about a dozen songs on this evening. Discover this band if you don’t know them, give them a really good listen if you really want to get lost in some really fantastic atmospheric vibes. 

Opening the show was a cool West Coast trio, Faetooth, full of heavy doom and growly-meets-girlie vocals and grit. They had power and were quite heavy, totally doomy and really fun to watch, but much like Slow Crush they were bathed in darkness to create their version of darkness and mood. | Laura Jerele
