Talk about seriously catchy feel-good vibes—and no, I’m not talking about catching a contact buzz! I can totally see why such a huge crowd showed up for The Elovaters and Kashed Out show at The Pageant this past Friday night. Everything about this band and their fans reeked of positivity and good times surrounding them and their performance. (Ok, so maybe now I’m talking about that contact buzzability.) The Elovaters’ songs are catchy and danceable, bringing all the reggae essentials with a nice blend of dubstep and at times hip-hop and world beats, all while staying clear of cliches. There were no boring jams or long and loose band tangents—in fact there was nothing boring about the show at all!

With the band clearly caring a ton about the whole vibe of the show, it swelled with color and spark. The lights were bright and ambient, moody at times, as they would need to be, but mostly vivid and intentionally bright—just like their songs. With lighting that matched the vibe and mood, that meant we were treated to bright, saturated, almost tropical colors sweeping the stage, then dropping into softer, dreamy shades at just the right moments. Mostly though, it was like the lights were doing exactly what the music was by refusing to let the room get dull for even a second.

You know I love a good crowd turnout, and this one was seriously lit! Yep…I meant that in all the ways you took that! The crowd danced and sang the entire time, and from what I understand, that’s exactly what it was like when they played here earlier this year at the Pageant’s sister venue, Delmar Hall. I love a good rock n’ roll glow up.  They left us absolutely buzzing! Okay, okay…I’ll stop now. Here’s what you missed:

Roll Up
Shots Fired
Wind on My Back
All Her Favorite Songs
Criminal
Red Wine
Gimme Love
Good Old Days
Staring At The Sun
Down the Road
Moon
Sky High
Sunburn
Meridian

Encore:
Gardenia
Margaritas
Sunlight

Opening act Kash’d Out was a breath of fresh air, also fitting the bill with their reggae-meets-hip-hop genre bend, but they were quite rock at times and very technically proficient players. This was my first time seeing them and they were hella fun, running around the stage with a lot of energy and with songs like “So Blessed” and “Always Vibin’”, how could you NOT have fun? Aces. I don’t listen to reggae much and I have to admit this was a really wonderful show, it really was aces! | Laura Jerele
