A still from the video for “Revel In Death” by At My Worst
Yesterday, local metal band At My Worst debuted their newest single, “Revel In Death.” The song is the first preview of Bad End, the band’s sophomore album, which arrives on November 1. To commemorate the new single, the band recorded a music video, which should be of particular interest to loyal readers of this site as it is the first music video ever directed by At The Venue Photography, who you might recognize as longtime The Arts STL contributors Colin Williams and Erica Vining. You can check out their handiwork here; needless to say, it kicks ass.
When our David Von Nordheim interviewed At My Worst back in early 2023, they told him, “Our sound is some kind of -core. Every song has a lot of influences. Every member draws inspiration from a plethora of subgenres. If we had to put a label on it, it’s mostly metalcore, and dips into deathcore and groove metal.” “Revel In Death” plays like a tour through all that metal subgenre whiplash, sliding between lightning-fast thrash riffs and slow-chugging riffs accented by pitch harmonics while the singing shifts from echo-laden clean vocals to a throat-shredding scream. The video, showcasing footage of the band performing in a stark loft or warehouse space, accentuates both their technicality and brutality in equal measures. Give it a watch for a look at what local metal has to offer later this fall. | Jason Green
