Back as a teen, I would love going to Union Station. Brett Hull had a restaurant there, I could hang with my friends, shop, and have great and diverse food. As life goes, the area went through changes but OH BABY, it’s back in big ways. I had the privilege of attending a private event to see the new additions to Union Station the day before the August 28 ribbon cutting and official grand opening.
Most locals are already familiar with the St. Louis Wheel and maybe the carousel but the additions add quite the wow factor!
The Flying Louie is a swinging ship that starts a little slow but rocks side to side very high in no time. You definitely catch air, especially on the far ends of each of the ends of the ship.
The Wave Swinger holds several swings that rotate and rise and swing in a circular fashion. Adults ride in single chairs and there are double chairs for an adult and child.
The Loco Motion is a small roller coaster with a big bang. There are four units and four seats per unit that spin as the coaster flies.
The aforementioned Wheel is $17 for adults, $12 for children. I have loved this attraction since we fortunately have had it. The city lights are so beautiful at night and there’s plenty to see from the air earlier in the day.
The Carousel animals are colorful and fascinating even as an adult.
There is also an exciting 18-hole mini golf with water features throughout the very well-spaced out holes.
The prices of the rides vary from $5-$12, each with a barrage of combo packages for kids and adults; some even include admission to the beautiful St. Louis Aquarium.
Those who want a good time with friends or family will not be disappointed by a day at the new Union Station. It feels like a carnival that lasts day and night as there are also games, cotton candy, cracker jacks, fresh lemonades, snow cones and more. It was one of the best times I’ve had in a very long time. | Diane Ruff
