On tour: Silverstein w/ Dayseeker, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, & One Step Closer

05.05.23, 6:00pm | Bogart’s, 2621 Vine St., Cincinnati, OH | All ages | sold out, but resale tickets available; see below for more tour dates!

After a months-long tour, rock band Silverstein heads to Bogart’s in Cincinnati next weekend for one of their final shows this run. I remember listening to these guys in middle school, they have been hard at it for over two decades now (I’m aging myself, whoops). The Cincy show comes one day shy of the one-year anniversary of the band’s tenth studio album release, Misery Made Me, which dropped on May 6th of last year. The album saw commercial success, with the single “Ultraviolet” enjoying weeks of avid airtime on SXM Octane and over 4 million Spotify streams in the first 11 months. Founding member and lead vocalist for the band, Shane Told, has energetic and enduring vocals which have contributed to the band’s success over the last 20 years. Near constant touring hasn’t seemed to wear out the band yet, with recent live shows being just as animated as those at their inception. Perusing fan forums, it is clear others agree, and note the band’s constant enjoyment of their craft and excitement to be on stage every single show as setting them apart from many others in the industry.

Silverstein has been supported on the tour by Dayseeker, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, and One Step Closer. I have personally seen Dayseeker twice, and Rory Rodriguez has one of the most incredible, dynamic vocal ranges in the business right now—no cap (or whatever kids these days say). I’ve described Rodriguez in the past as “screaming in kind” because this man seems like the sweetest person, and that translates into his music as well. His screaming is raw and powerful, and commands attention with the emotion behind it. Many of his songs were written in memory of his father, and I’ve yet to see a show where he doesn’t leave every bit of himself on stage for his dad when playing through those tracks.

SeeYouSpaceCowboy and One Step Closer are both new to me, and what I’ve heard sounds promising. SeeYouSpaceCowboy has been grouped into the mathcore genre, which excites me to see live. Complex riffs and chaotic vocals meshed with the band’s use of spoken word poetry set them apart. One Step Closer, a rock band out of Wilkes-Barre, PA, has earned accolades for their authenticity and for connecting with fans on a personal level, which puts them in perfect position with the other acts on this tour. All four bands are highly regarded by fans for their interactions and engagement. The show is sold out, but if you were lucky enough to grab a ticket you are in for a special night at one of Cincinnati’s oldest and most beloved venues—Bogart’s—which was originally opened as a theater in 1905. | Erica Vining
