Palms sweaty, knees weak, arms heavy…not an Eminem review (or a heart attack), just me sitting in front of my laptop madly refreshing Ticketmaster trying to score tickets to see the Queen herself, Ms. Taylor Alison Swift. I was unsuccessful in my mission to secure, and with resale tickets in the thousands for obstructed view I was pretty certain I would have to miss her on this round. I’ve heard when you put good energy out there, it sometimes comes back around to you in the form of karma Taylor Swift media credentials. The scream I scrumpt when I got the email was one heard round the world, loud enough to create my own word to describe it. Nothing topped the sobs of my ten-year-old stepdaughter, though, when I told her we were going to see her idol. Usually when I’m making kids cry it’s because I took away their electronics, so these tears were a welcome change.
Eleven-time Grammy winner Swift embarked on the Eras tour in March, beginning her run in Glendale, Arizona. The curly haired crooner will continue stateside through August, then take a few weeks off before hitting Mexico City for four dates in August. Swift is taking a well-deserved break following her Mexico dates before hitting South America in November and heading overseas in February for a month-long run. No one can deny the work ethic of the music icon, who has amassed an impressive list of accomplishments including selling over 200 million records, winning Artist of the Decade (AMA) and Woman of the Decade (Billboard), and holding 98 Guinness World Records. She also seems to be a genuinely nice person, which has helped her to maintain an impressive fan base.
Swift’s current Eras tour broke the world record for most concert tickets sold in one day, selling over 2.4 million tickets in the first 24 hours. The show takes the viewer through the Eras of Swift’s success, playing through songs from her ten full-length studio albums. The set list spans an impressive three hours of showmanship and theater woven with musical performances. Swift has changed it up slightly with each show, but one constant is her ability to keep a crowd on their feet through 44 songs. July 7th is set to be an epic night as it is also the rerelease date for her album Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and the set list is speculated to reflect this monumental moment for her in taking back her voice. Concertgoers are encouraged to wear purple to reflect the unofficial color of the album, which really strains my all-black wardrobe, but for Taylor I will make it work. I am so thankful I get to witness this night in person and I cannot wait to bring you a full review of the show. | Erica Vining
