Preview: Fan Expo St. Louis | 05.13-15.22, America’s Center

Are you ready, St. Louis? It’s time to share space with incredible artists, meticulous cosplayers, Funko Pops as far as the eye can see, practically actual light sabers; a Clerks cast reunion that includes writer/director Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Brian O’Halloran, Trevor Fehrman, and Jeff Anderson (O’Halloran wasn’t even supposed to BE in St. Louis this weekend); Carl Weathers (APOLLO CREED, YOU GUYS), at least 20 Jayne hats from Firefly, three Wonder Women, and a minimum of six little nerdlings freaking out over Deadpool at any given moment. Also, this year, we get a big, mohawked “Mary Poppins, y’all” in the form of the wonderful actor Michael Rooker.

It’s Fan Expo time, you guys.

Running May 13-15 at America’s Center (701 Convention Plaza), Fan Expo St. Louis takes the place of Wizard World St. Louis, the comics and pop culture convention that similarly invaded America’s Center every year starting in 2013. Though this is Fan Expo’s first foray into our fair city, they have long managed a healthy slate of comic conventions, including their flagship MegaCon in Orlando. With the purchase of six Wizard cons last year (including the company’s two largest in Chicago and Philadelphia), the company now runs 17 events across North America, which Forbes theorized gives them “likely the largest fan convention aggregate audience in the world.”

Additional celebrity guests include William Shatner, Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy), and the main Smallville trio of Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, and Kristen Kreuk, while comic book guests include artists like Jae Lee (Inhumans, The Dark Tower), Tony Harris (Starman), and the legendary Michael Golden (The ‘Nam), and writers like longtime Green Lantern Corps scribe Peter Tomasi and ‘90s Spider-Man mainstay Howard Mackie. See the below press release for more details. For full information or to purchase tickets, visit fanexpohq.com/fanexpostlouis/. And The Arts STL will be on the ground at the convention, so stay tuned next week for a summary of the festivities and a photo gallery. | Melissa Cynova
