Cirque du Soleil breaks new ground—on ice—with “Crystal”

Since 1984, Cirque du Soleil, or “Circus of the Sun,” has been producing original circus style productions combined with a central theme and storyline. More than 450 cities and 180 million spectators later, the famed troupe brings its 42nd production, Crystal, to The Family Arena.

While each of the Cirque du Soleil shows are highly unique and creative in their own right, Crystal is the first time they have attempted a show on ice. Crystal is a state-of-the-art production pushing the boundaries by combining skating and sliding with acrobatic feats that will mystify crowds both young and old.

Executive Producer Yasmine Khalil said, “We are excited to create a unique entertainment experience on ice for all spectators to enjoy. It’s a wonderful opportunity for Cirque du Soleil as ice provides us with an entirely new field of play which also comes with a set of creative challenges. Our goal is to continuously surprise audiences by showcasing all the incredible possibilities on ice.”

Crystal follows a young woman (portrayed by Nobahar Dadui) who shatters through reality to reach a surreal world filled with possibility. She learns that sometimes one must leave solid ground to find their true footing.

Crystal will take place at The Family Arena on November 4th and 5th. Performance times are Saturday at 3:30pm and 7:30pm , and Sunday at 1pm and 5pm. Ticket prices range from $33.00-$150.00 and can be purchased by visiting MetroTix.com.
