We all remember that Macklemore hit from years back that everyone loved to hate, right? “50 dollars for a T-shirt” …then some drama about a thrift shop and popping tags, whatever that means. Every time I hear that song, I think of a different band that I much prefer to listen to: Shinedown. Let me explain.
Have you ever heard a song for the first time and were so completely enthralled you wanted to share it with everyone around you? That was me in 2020 with the debut of “Atlas Falls” by multi-platinum rock band Shinedown. I enthusiastically described the song to my husband while scrolling Amazon Music to play it for him. When I couldn’t find the song, I went to Google and found that it was a limited release and the only way I could stream the song for him was to purchase—you guessed it—a $50 t-shirt. The proceeds were all donated to charity and I was REALLY excited about the song so I’m the proud owner of one “Atlas Falls” t-shirt and a digital link to the song…that released to the public the next day. Oops. No regrets because it was for a wonderful cause, but to date that shirt is still the most expensive band shirt I own and I think fondly of it anytime Macklemore crosses my TikTok feed crooning about expensive t-shirts.
If you haven’t gotten a chance to hear the song, make sure you are in attendance this Sunday at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre because Brent Smith and his crew are heading into town for a stacked holiday weekend show. Accompanied by Papa Roach and Spiritbox, Shinedown embarks on the fall leg of their Revolutions Live Tour with their first stop being right here in St. Louis. Getting the chance to catch the first night of a two-month long tour means you get to witness the excitement and showtime antics before anyone else. Add to this the impressive opening roster and it being a holiday weekend and you have a recipe for the perfect show.
Shinedown puts out hit after hit with unmatched consistency, remaining relevant in the rock music scene for over two decades. Their success is seen in their numerous award-winning albums and record-breaking singles, including the impressive title of most #1 hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Song Charts. The first leg of the Revolutions Live Tour sold out in its entirety, a testament to their significance in rock music. Smith sings of dark times in his past riddled with addiction and trauma while also spreading messages of hope through seven studio albums with the band’s latest, Planet Zero, released in 2022.
