The Backseat Lovers continue to swell in popularity, moving up to bigger venues each time they play St. Louis. Their recent, mid-tour stop at The Factory (supporting their latest release, Waiting to Spill) brought an extremely enthusiastic sold-out crowd. Hitting the stage in a wash of darkness, they began their set with their trademark, heavy opening jam session that, at times, was drowned out by the welcoming screams from the crowd. Their stage treatment was as moody and broody as their heavy indie sounds, drenched in deep, red lights with sparse moments of bright, hopeful washes of light. A mid-set Beatles cover of “Strawberry Fields Forever” brought the crowd to standstill, taking in the solo performance of singer Joshua Harmon. The Lovers ended the night with a run through “Sinking Ship” where, at times, the audience out-sang the band, much to their delight.

Louisville’s own Bendigo Fletcher opened the show with their unique take on psychedelic, indie-folk with a touch melodic crooning. The venue was nearly full as they took the stage, proving they had both a built-in fanbase as well as people eager to see what the buzz is all about! | Laura Jerele
