Warm summer nights at what St. Louisans still lovingly call “Riverport” were made for concerts by eighties hit-makers like Tears for Fears. You would never know they were well into their fourth decade as a band based on a hugely attended concert with extremely diverse crowd. The setlist made sure to hit all their chart-topping Gen-X sing-alongs like “Everybody Wants to Rule The World,” “Shout,” and “Sowing The Seeds Of Love.” Their massive stage was lit with lush images, visuals, and moody lights befitting each song perfectly. Balancing the setlist with their legacy hits and newest music from their 2022 release The Tipping Point was seamless as songs transitioned very well (and quickly) into one another. Proving they’re not just a blast from the past, Tears for Fears gave their St. Louis fans a memorable, summer night.
Cold War Kids opened the show and gave a lengthy opening set, a true rarity for opening acts. With longevity of their own, they brought their biggest, career-spanning indie hits including “First,” “Hang Me Out to Dry,” and “Louder Than Ever.” | Laura Jerele
