On Thursday evening, with beach balls flying and Hawaiian shirts flowing in the breeze, Jimmy Buffett’s The Coral Reefer Band and The Doobie Brothers took to Hollywood Casino Amphitheater. The Coral Reefer Band opened the show with a fun and heartfelt tribute to the late Jimmy Buffett. The crowd sang and swayed to classics like “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” As the crowd sang along, they were greeted by video footage of Jimmy himself, which was bittersweet. The set closed with a singalong to “Margaritaville,” which left the crowd smiling.

With the crowd already amped up from the opener, The Doobie Brothers took to the stage with “Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While).” Michael McDonald said how great it was to be back in the state he was born and raised in. The Doobies glided through a 19-song set that was part greatest hits and part new cuts. Some songs from their new album Walk This Road included “Angels & Mercy,” a song about a man on the edge. Hits like “Long Train Runnin’” and “Minute By Minute” had the audience on their feet. The encore featured four songs—“Black Water,” “Amazing Grace,” “Takin’ it to the Streets,” and “Listen to the Music”—to cap off what was a fantastic evening of music. | Carrie Ogle
