The evening kicked off with Miles Miller taking the stage. Miller wasted no time kicking off some crowd favorite songs, including my personal favorite “Lose My Number” which had the audience singing along. Beyond the music, Miller proved to be just as magnetic off stage, spending an impressive amount of time after his set meeting fans, signing vinyl records he was selling, and taking pictures with anyone who asked. The Kentucky-born energy pulsed through his performance, giving an authentic vibe that made it hard to not root for.

Briscoe took the stage with fresh tracks—their new album, Heat of July, will be released by ATO Records on September 19—and some familiar favorites. The moment they started playing “Hooped Earrings,” the whole place transformed—people were on their feet, crowding the stage, and dancing along. The touch of saxophone woven into parts of their set added an unexpected, soulful edge to their traditional roots rock sound that stood out as a highlight for me.

This was my first time catching either act live, and they delivered beyond expectations. If you have not seen either of these artists yet, do yourself a favor and catch them while you can. | Paul Liggett
