Westport Plaza was buzzing as music lovers gathered for another installment of Parties in the Plaza. By 5pm, the evening was a perfect temperature to get out and enjoy the evening and the energy in the air was contagious.
The night kicked off with local talent Alex Rich, who wasted no time getting the crowd in the mood. Armed with only his guitar and looping pedals, Rich delivered a one-man show that had shades of Ed Sheeran complete with a couple of Ed Sheeran covers. For nearly an hour, his upbeat set warmed up the Plaza, transforming casual listeners into head bobbers.

But the anticipation really built when The Urge frontman and local legend Steve Ewing and the Steve Ewing Band took the stage much earlier than their 6:30pm start time. Within minutes, the plaza turned into one big dance floor. Some adults danced with drinks in hand while kids jumped up and down and let loose completely. The Steve Ewing Band powered through a setlist of several fresh original songs with some throwback favorites and of course they blended in some Urge music to the delight of many at the event.
By the end of the evening it was clear that The Steve Ewing Band doesn’t just play music, they throw a party! Whether you came for the food, drink, or the nostalgia, you left with sore feet from dancing and a big smile on your face.

If you missed this one, don’t worry as the Plaza isn’t done yet. The next event will be the third Thursday in September featuring Somebody’s Problem, a tribute to country pop star Morgan Wallen. | Paul Liggett
