Get ready, St. Louis! This is the one I’ve—WE’VE been waiting for: King Diamond! That’s right, King Diamond’a Saint Lucifer’s Hospital 1920 Tour is finally bringing the metal icon to The Factory on October 19th. As a fan who’s been following King Diamond for years, starting all the way back in the early days of the groundbreaking Mercyful Fate, this is a heavy metal-falsetto-dream come true. I’ve seen the transformations, the stories, the over-the-top theatrics that have defined his music and shows—but from the sounds of it, this is shaping up to be something beyond anything we’ve experienced.

King Diamond himself says, “This is Saint Lucifer’s Hospital, enter if you dare!” From what I’ve heard, this tour isn’t just a concert; it’s a full-blown horror experience. It’s an intricate, eerie storyline set in 1920, complete with sinister characters and dramatic surprises. And with Myrkur providing haunting backing vocals and even taking on some organ work, this night is going to be pure metal magic. The kind of thing that us true fans know King has always been capable of—and then some.

I still remember watching King Diamond back in the early days, his operatic screams and dark theatricality setting him apart from everyone else. As the frontman for Mercyful Fate, he was otherworldly, with a voice that didn’t seem real and songs that almost seemed to be conjured up from somewhere beyond. When I heard about this tour, I knew I had to be there. (Fun fact here: if it weren’t for King Diamond, I would have never gotten married. True story, kids. Back in 1993 he did a reunion tour with Mercyful Fate with Anacrusis opening and fate literally stepped in as a year later I married the founder and guitarist in Anacrusis. How many people can lay claim to a story like that?)

And let’s not forget, he’s joined by the legendary Overkill, one of the most criminally underrated metal bands of all time. Their frontman, Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth, is just as an enigmatic and uniquely voiced in his own right. This is one hell of a bill. I’ve been counting the days, and it feels surreal that we’re finally going to see one of metal’s most legendary performers right back here in St. Louis. Hello from the gutter, indeed!

If you’re a fan of King Diamond, like me, you won’t want to miss this. And it’s happening in October! C’mon, people—let’s show up, sell this thing out, and make this a night that St. Louis won’t soon forget! Grab your tickets, and let’s meet at The Factory on October 19th for an amazing and legendary night of metal with Overkill and the one and only, King Diamond! | Laura Jerele
