The Pageant will soon play host to PVRIS and Poppy, two artists on the edge of indie pop. You’re probably more familiar with Poppy, who underwent a second-act shift from twee electropop to high-concept industrial metal and noise rock. In that case, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by PVRIS’s top-notch, anthemic pop rock.

PVRIS formed in Lowell, MA but eventually made their way to Los Angeles. The band, led by singer/multi-instrumentalist Lyndsey Gunnulfsen (a.k.a. Lynn Gunn) peaked early with White Noise, an exercise in art punk with excellent vocals and forceful-yet-thoughtful lyrics. PVRIS is currently touring their fourth album, Evergreen, a strong collection of power-pop-punk that favorably compares to the new Paramore release. Expect to hear key tracks “Goddess” and “Good Enemy” at Saturday’s show.

PVRIS and Poppy’s “Godless/Goddess” tour promises to deliver a night of high-intensity, hard-edged alt-rock with touches of pop and metal. Poppy’s setlist is made of tracks from her 2019 breakthrough I Disagree, 2021’s Flux and the fan-favorite Choke EP. The evening wouldn’t be complete without “BLOODMONEY,” which earned Poppy a Grammy nom for best metal performance—a first for a female solo artist.

Doors open at 6:00 and the show starts at 7:00. Be sure to get there in time to hear special guest Pom-Pom Squad play most of their great debut, Death of a Cheerleader. With tickets at $39 apiece, you will feel spoiled by all this awesome alt-pop. | Rob Von Nordheim
