This Tuesday will see another mid-week slaughter from underground heavyweights as Portrayal of Guilt and Street Sects land their spring 2026 tour at Off Broadway. In addition to these two Austin, TX-based bands, the bill will feature direct support from Taraneh and local support from St. Louis’ own Man With Rope.
Portrayal of Guilt
A band that is difficult to pin down to a single genre, Portrayal of Guilt is best known for combining the hateful intensity of classical black metal with the raw emotional agony of American screamo. Across their five studio albums and five EPs, Portrayal of Guilt’s “blackened screamo” formula has evolved to include sonic textures as varied as chamber music (2023’s Devil Music) and nu metal (their most recent record, …Beginning of the End, released in April). Expect a symphony of jagged, dissonant guitar work and Matt King’s throat-shredding vocals to transport you to a dimension of pure emotional catharsis.
Street Sects
An industrial rock duo and fellow Austin natives, Street Sects is legendary for the intensity of both their studio albums (most of which feature the grim, desperate, and murderous artwork of A.J. Garcés Böhmer) and their live performances, which assault the senses with strobe lighting, fog machines, and the sight of vocalist Leo Ashline pacing the floor of the venue like a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Expect a harrowing performance that seems like something ripped straight out of a nightmarish experimental film.
Taraneh
An emotionally raw multi-genre rock band fronted by NYC artist Taraneh Azar, Taraneh’s music is deeply melodic and provides an effective emotional counterbalance to the knife’s edge horror of Portrayal of Guilt and Street Sects.
Man With Rope
A St. Louis-based power trio known for crushing sets at venues like Off Broadway and the Sinkhole. Being tapped as local support for acts of this caliber is a significant sign that this band is rapidly elevating their presence in the underground.
I can think of no better venue for this tour than Off Broadway, a venue intimate enough to keep the stage presence of these bands suffocatingly intense while also spacious enough to accommodate a retreat to the balcony or patio for a quick breather. The acoustics at Off Broadway make this a must-see for any longtime follower of these artists or anyone who considers themselves an acolyte of extreme music in general. | David von Nordheim
