Across his 22-year career, John Mayer has made his name with impeccably arranged pop tunes like “Your Body Is a Wonderland,” “Waiting on the World to Change,” and “Daughters” while cultivating a side gig as a jam band guitar hero filling in for Jerry Garcia as a member of Dead & Company. But on his latest tour, Mayer has left aside the ornate backing instruments and swirling psychedelic accompaniment and just brought an acoustic guitar and his sizable songbook, including his latest album, the ’80s soft rock throwback Sob Rock. Opening for Mayer was R&B-infused folk singer Joy Oladokun, whose next release Proof of Life drops on April 28th via Amigo/Verve Forecast/Republic Records.
