Natalie Merchant joins our own St Louis Symphony Orchestra next week at the Stifel Theatre. This tour, which Merchant said is focusing on “unique and intimate venues,” is crafted to create unpredictable experiences that will inspire both the audience and the musicians.
Merchant saw her rise to acclaim in the early nineties, first as singer for 10,000 Maniacs on their 1992 breakthrough Our Time in Eden and then in a remarkable solo career with hits like “Carnival” and “Jealousy,” staying in our vision throughout her musical evolutions, activism and soaring vocals. She summarized her “3 Decades of Song” with a 10-CD box set in 2017, but this year, she at last graced us with a new album, Keep Your Courage, her first album of new material since 2014. Though largely written during the pandemic, Merchant says, “this is not an album about the coronavirus or the chaos it caused.
