Mosh in May at Plaza Billiards & Sports Bar | 2106 William St #400, Cape Girardeau, MO | 05.16.26; Doors: 5PM Show: 6PM | Ages 21+| $15

St. Louis’ hardest working thrash metal band Stormrazor will join a lineup of regional metal talent this Saturday at Plaza Billiards & Sports Bar in Cape Girardeau, MO. Fronted by energetic showman Joey Saturn, Stormrazor has been meticulously rehearsing their current setlist at Utopia Studios in preparation for the gig. The lineup also includes:

  • Golgothan: A horror-themed death metal band from Lafayette, LA (the only non-Missouri act on the bill)
  • Emaciation: A blackened death metal band native to Cape
  • StoKo: An alternative thrash metal band, also from Cape
  • The Scatterguns: A biker metal band and a mainstay of the Cape scene
  • Stoned Messiah: A death/sludge metal band hailing from Bollinger Co., MO

As the only St. Louis band on the bill, fans of our city’s metal scene should view Saturday’s show as an opportunity both to support Stormrazor and to explore the significant contributions Cape Girardeau has made to the Missouri metal community. The home of Southeastern Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau offers a regional flavor that sets it apart from the music scene of our state’s most famous “college town,” Columbia. As many cities built around a university do, Cape Girardeau has a thriving local arts scene that includes some of our state’s heaviest bands. In addition to catching the show at Plaza Billiards, readers should check out some of the beloved local haunts like the legendary Burrito-Ville restaurant and Annie Laurie’s, a massive vintage and antique store. The Trail of Tears State Park is also a short drive away from the city and offers some breathtaking views of the Mississippi River.

Stormrazor currently has their singles available for streaming on Spotify, including an EP recorded live at Red Flag. In the past they have collaborated with international metal heavyweights like Tim “Ripper” Owens of Judas Priest fame. Stormrazor is highly recommended for fans of melodic thrash metal giants like Overkill, Death Angel, and Exodus.

As a theme song for the scenic two hour drive down the I-55 corridor, I recommend keeping the immortal words of Anthrax in mind:

“Got my foot pinned to the floor
You can feel the engine roar
I got thunder in my head
I’m metal thrashing mad, yeah!
Metal thrashing mad, yeah!”

PS: The new Anthrax album will be dropping in September. Thrash will never die! | David von Nordheim
