Explaining King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard to someone isn’t always easy. The Aussie outfit routinely jumps and eschews genre on many of their releases, and across their decades-long existence there is no shortage of music to take in. In a way, they combine the output of garage rock master Ty Segall with the shapeshifting musical tastes of Beck. They have experimented with jazz, synth pop, garage fuzz, metal, and microtonal prog rock over their previous 25 albums. However, with Flight b741 King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have created one of the most accessible introductions to their widely praised catalog. Here, they find themselves embracing the cocked-wah guitar tones and big vocals of southern-fried ’70s rock. The end result is easily one of the most enjoyable records of the year.
The gods have been kind, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard will be playing their very first St. Louis show at The Factory on September 5th, 2024. The Gizzard boys have a reputation with their dedicated fanbase for putting on engaging, high-energy performances.
