Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Orchestra World Tour| 02.08.25 | The Fabulous Fox, 527 N Grand Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63103 | All ages | $53.50–$183.50
LIMIT BREAK! This Saturday, February 8th, the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Orchestra will bring its multimedia concert experience to the Fabulous Fox. The concert will feature new arrangements of iconic music from the acclaimed video game Final Fantasy Rebirth, performed by an orchestra of over 100 musicians and choral performers.
Released in February 2024, Final Fantasy Rebirth is the second game in Square Enix’s planned trilogy of remakes of the original Final Fantasy VII (1997), arguably the most iconic entry in the long-running video game series. For the uninitiated, Final Fantasy VII follows the journey of Cloud Strife, a spiky haired mercenary who, with the help of an eccentric cast of characters, battles against the evil megacorporation Shinra and their efforts to harness the planet’s life energy for nefarious purposes.
Final Fantasy Rebirth covers the events of the second act of the original Final Fantasy VII, so fans of the series should expect an emphasis on selections from this portion of the game, including the breezy motif for tropical resort town Costa del Sol, the military march introducing Shinra’s new president, and the jaunty theme for the Golden Saucer entertainment complex, in addition to the battle themes for the game’s many iconic villains. The concert will feature unique video animations created specifically for the orchestra tour, promising a unique, immersive experience.
The musical directors and arrangers for the Orchestra World Tour are the father-son duo of Arnie and Eric Roth, well-known for their work conducting previous orchestral tours for both Final Fantasy and other video game series. Arnie and Eric Roth directed and conducted the Distant Worlds orchestra world tour, which featured arrangements of pieces spanning the entire Final Fantasy series, with a performance at the Fox in February 2023. Eric Roth has directed and arranged music for other video game concert series (Undertale, NieR), and has also served as musical director for orchestral tours for musicians like “Weird” Al Yankovich and The Beach Boys. Both Roths are famous for their work with Mannheim Steamroller, the long-running annual Christmas concert symphony, and both have conducted many of the world’s most famous orchestras.
The music for Final Fantasy VII was originally written by longtime series composer Nobuo Uematsu. Composers Mitsuto Suzuki and Masashi Hamauzu helmed the reimagining of Uematsu’s original score for Rebirth, and also contributed original pieces that will be performed by the Rebirth Orchestra. The complete seven disc, 9+ hour Final Fantasy Rebirth soundtrack can be purchased from the Square Enix store, and a preview sampler of the soundtrack is available on streaming. | David von Nordheim
